POLICE have launched an investigation following the sudden death of a two-year-old girl in Saltcoats.

Officers were called to a property in St Andrew's Court in the town at around 5.20pm following the child's death.

Police Scotland say they are treating the child's death as 'unexplained' but confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances. 

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Officers were made aware of the sudden death of a two-year-old girl at a property on St Andrew's Court in Saltcoats around 5.20pm on Monday, January 20.

"Her death is currently being treated as unexplained although there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
