A MAYBOLE woman has celebrated a major birthday as she turned 100 last week.

Mary Barclay (née Reid), celebrated her centenary year on Saturday January, 22 with a telegram from the Queen and said her secret to reach the grand age was “good honest hard work.”

Mary has spent most of her life in the Carrick town, apart from when she left to join the Women’s Land Army effort – aged 19 at a farm at Hollybush for a time.

In 1949, Mary married her late husband John Barclay and is a proud mum to Robert and Janet, auntie to her niece Janice.

She also has four grandchildren, Lorraine, Alistair, John and Heather and a Great Gran to Cara, Jack, Cameron, Finlay and Archie.

Mary has been a resident at Fairknowe House Care Home in Maybole since September 2018 where she receives wonderful care and much love.

On her big celebration she was delighted to have the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Nigel Martin visit her to present her the telegram from the Queen.

She was also joined by some of her family to celebrate.

Mary and her family would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to send her wishes and gifts on this special occasion and memorable day.
