Ayr Hospital’s emergency department had to close over the weekend after flood water led to patients having to be diverted to Crosshouse.
Flood water caused issues on Sunday, February 2, as the unit had to stop intake of any patients and advise others to head to Ayrshire’s other Accident and Emergency department.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran issued advice to residents who were seeking immediate medical attention to head to Crosshouse but warned that the department will be ‘very busy’.
On their social media they said in a statement: “Due to a flood in the ED Ayr Hospital, we are having to divert patients from the unit.
“If you need care but it’s not an emergency, call NHS24 on 111. For emergencies, call 999 or go to Crosshouse. Remember the unit will be very busy and so only come if it is an emergency.”
It is not known the extent of the flood, but the unit re-opened several hours later if the issue was resolved, allowing patients requiring medical attention in South Ayrshire to head to Ayr to receive treatment.
A further statement advised that both units were still busy.
