THERE has been another triumph for a Vale of Clwyd boxer to celebrate.

Rhyl's Mark Sweetman, fighting out of Denbigh Boxing Club, had a hard fought contest at Kinmel Manor, Abergele earlier this month.

Tyson Fury is not the only boxer to enhance his career by slimming down, losing weight and showing the dedication to training you need to succeed.

Sweetman has shed two stone and he is now fighting people of his own size.

His latest opponent in the very entertaining show, promoted by Ryan McMillan, was the tough and capable Manchester boxer James Darkes.

The intensity of the contest never slowed as both boxers attacked each other with mixed success.

Darkes had more success at long range and Sweetman in close, as he has always had to fight against bigger men.

The fight was a real crowd pleaser as it swung between the two hard punching, strong chinned fighters.

It was hard to find a winner and the home crowd were rewarded by Sweetman scraping home on a majority decision.

It was a great fight and it was pity there had to be a loser.

Next up for Sweetman is a bout next month in Stoke.
