Nicola Sturgeon has indicated that the Government is considering a ban on pub crawls to help tackle outbreaks of coronavirus.

The First Minister said that the government and its advisers were looking at issues around the hospitality trade and said tighter rules could be announced.

She said in response to a question on banning pub crawls that people going from pub to pub in Aberdeen was a feature of the outbreak in that city.

Ms Sturgeon said the guidance and legislation was being reviewed regularly, she said it was being considered if some guidance needs to be made law.

She said: "We have got to review this regularly to decide whether it is strong enough and whether we are being clear enough.

“We are looking at whether we need to tighten up regulation on hospitality.”

She said forcing pubs and restaurants to legally collect customer details was one being considered, because she said some were doing it “assiduously” but others were being “laissez-faire”.

She added: "Superficially there seems to be an issue with people going from one pub to another.”

The First Minister said the government “had not reached a view” yet  but said she would say “more about it shortly.”

She said there were 67 new cases in the last 24 hours, 39 in the Grampain area and 17 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, which the First Minister said was being "examinied very carefully".

In Aberdeen, 79 cases have now been linked to the cluster associated with pubs an increase on 25 on the day before.
