RELIEVED GIRVAN FC boss Lawrie Dinwoodie hopes Saturday's morale-boosting Premier Division win will aid their survival fight.

The Hamilton Park club came from behind to defeat Kirkintilloch Rob Roy 6-3 away to chalk up only their third Premier Division victory of the season.

Hat-tricks from Robert Patterson and Michael Reilly paved the way for victory.

The boss was impressed with the display and said: "We got off to a good start by taking the lead, but we then conceded two really poor goals before the break. Let's just say there were a few choice words exchanged at half-time. They scored again to go further ahead, but we got a goal back and then went on to dominated and win the game. It was good we took our chances because we hadn't taken them in other games.

"We have two really tough away games against Beith, who are challenging for the league and Scottish Junior Cup finalists, Hurlford United and will have to aim to take something from both to boost us before the Premier Division play-offs. We have done really well to get into the Premier Division, it's a great achievement and will do our best to stay there."

Meanwhile tomorrow (Wednesday) Girvan host Beith in an Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup quarter-final.

Dinwoodie added: "Beith might rest a couple of players since they are still going for the league. We will give it a go, as we have an opportunity of reaching a cup semi-final."
