CUMNOCK 1

TROON 0

THE Seasiders were unlucky not to return from Townhead Park with a point, following a gritty performance against the East Ayrshire hosts.

It was their second successive loss, following a narrow loss against Hurlford United a week earlier.

The visitors had much of the play in the first half with Scott Chatham and Ross McCrea both having shots saved by former Troon goalie Ally Semple.

However 'Nock scored in 42 minutes through Paul Burns.

The second half saw Troon again play well. Semple touched an Evan Maley shot round the post and skipper Dean Keenan hit two free-kicks against the Cumnock wall.

Assistant boss Matt Maley is encouraged with his side's progress and was disappointed to come back empty-handed.

He said: "We were unfortunate to take nothing from the game and we fear no-one in this league. We missed some chances as we had against Hurlford the week before but could not take them. I'm sure our next three points will not be far round the corner. We are at home to Petershill on Saturday and must aim to take the three points."

TROON: Johnstone; Strachan, Sherrie, Keenan, Syme, Chatham, McCrea, Murphy, Nade, Reilly, Love. Subs: Maley, McKay, Love, Nade.
